Mueller
Austin's urban village, built from a runway
Local Overview
The Story of Mueller
Mueller occupies the 700-acre site of Austin's former Robert Mueller Municipal Airport, which served the city from 1930 until its closure in 1999 when air traffic moved to the new Austin-Bergstrom International Airport. The ambitious redevelopment — one of the largest urban infill projects in the country — broke ground in 2007 with a vision of walkable, mixed-income, mixed-use neighborhoods. Today Mueller is a showcase for new urbanism in Texas: tree-lined streets with front-porch homes, a 30-acre lake park, the Thinkery children's museum, and the H-E-B flagship grocery. The Dell Children's Medical Center campus anchors the southeastern edge, making Mueller one of Austin's most self-contained neighborhoods.
