History & Character

The Story of Round Rock

Round Rock takes its name from the anvil-shaped limestone boulder in Brushy Creek that marked a low-water wagon crossing on the Chisholm Trail. The small farming community became a railroad stop in the 1870s and grew steadily through the 20th century. Everything changed in the 1990s when Dell Technologies chose Round Rock for its global headquarters, transforming the city into a technology hub. Today it's one of Texas's fastest-growing cities, consistently ranked among the best places to live in America. The charming downtown — with its restored Koughan Memorial Water Tower and Centennial Plaza — anchors a community that balances small-town warmth with big-city amenities.
